Computer-created graphics purporting to depict Nicolás Maduro in custody following his capture by the American authorities have gained countless of impressions across the internet.

The Way AI Images of Maduro Surfaced Soon After

The first inauthentic AI image apparently showing him led off a aircraft surfaced a brief time later. The picture was absent from any authoritative US channels; it was instead uploaded on the platform X by an profile purporting to be an “AI video art enthusiast”.

We’ve checked Google’s SynthID, determining the image was generated or edited with Google AI.

Additional AI-generated images began to spread in the following hours, seemingly depicting more angles of the leader detained. Noticeable identifying marks on these images show they were posted by an Instagram account called ultravfx.

AI analysis confirms all of these images were also created or altered Google AI.

Real Photo Released but Fakes Persisted

The former US president posted the initial authentic image of Nicolás Maduro handcuffed aboard the US Navy ship on that morning. Yet following this confirmation was made public, synthetic pictures continued to spread but were altered to show the gray sweatsuit seen on Maduro.

Reverse image searches indicate these altered fabrications were first posted on TikTok by a graphic design account. Again, the AI-watermark detector says the new graphics were produced with generative artificial intelligence.
